Common questions

How do I install Demigod's Guide on my iPhone?
Open https://demigodsguide.app/fi/ in Safari (not Chrome — Chrome on iOS doesn't support PWA installation). Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, scroll down, and tap "Add to Home Screen". Confirm the name and tap "Add". A new icon appears on your home screen; tap it to open the app in fullscreen mode.
How do I make sure the guide works offline on my trip?
Install the app to your home screen as described above, then open every page once while you have a connection — the home page, each destination, the map, and your favorites view. The service worker caches everything you visit. For map tiles, accept the optional 30 km download during setup, or visit the map page once while connected so the tiles around your home base get cached.
How do I share my home base and favorites with another family member?
V1 stores your selections only on your device, so they don't sync automatically. The simplest way: each family member runs through the first-run wizard on their own phone with the same home base and the same favorites. Cross-device sync is on the roadmap for V2.
How do I clear my trip data?
Open Settings (in the app) and tap "Clear local data". This removes your home base, favorites, and cached preferences. Reload the app afterwards and the first-run wizard will appear again.
I noticed an error in the content. How do I report it?
Email support@demigodsguide.app or open an issue on GitHub at github.com/raveli/demigodsguide. Mistakes in opening hours, ticket prices, or facts are especially welcome — we update these between trips.
The app says "Updated!" — what does that mean?
We pushed new content. The service worker downloaded it in the background, and the next time you open the app, you'll see the new version. No action needed on your part.

General FAQ

Is it free?
Yes — the Crete guide is free, with no accounts and no ads. We may add a paid Pro tier later for offline audio narration and additional regions, but the core mythology guide stays free.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Demigod's Guide is a Progressive Web App. Add it to your iPhone or Android home screen and the entire guide — text, images, map of your home base area — works without a signal.
What ages is it for?
It's written for a 9-year-old reader (the founder's son was the first user), but it works for any mythology-curious family member. Younger kids enjoy it read aloud; older kids and adults read it themselves.
Is there an iOS App Store version?
Not yet. V1 is a PWA you install via Safari ("Add to Home Screen"). A native iOS App Store release is planned for late 2026 once the second region (mainland Greece) ships.
What languages is it in?
V1 ships with full Finnish content. English content is on the way for V1.1 (summer 2026). German, French, and Spanish are on the longer-term roadmap.
Where does the mythology come from?
We draw from public-domain ancient sources — Hesiod, Homer, Ovid — and from accessible classical scholarship. We do not quote or reproduce text from any modern fiction (including the Percy Jackson series); the connection is the shared mythology, not the books.
What data do you collect?
None on our servers. Your home base, favorites, and trip data are stored only in your device's browser (LocalStorage). Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap. There is no analytics, no tracking, no account.
Can I add more destinations?
Right now V1 covers six handpicked Crete destinations. V1.2 (late summer 2026) will add more Crete sites and themed routes ("Footsteps of Zeus", "The Minotaur Trail"). V2 expands to mainland Greece.
